{"id":570,"date":"2009-07-08T02:44:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-08T06:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/clients.chrisvanpatten.com\/theatreaficionado.com\/2009\/07\/katharine-hepburn-stage-to-screen.html"},"modified":"2009-07-08T02:44:00","modified_gmt":"2009-07-08T06:44:00","slug":"katharine-hepburn-stage-to-screen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theatreaficionado.com\/?p=570","title":{"rendered":"Katharine Hepburn: Stage to Screen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Public Library is currently offering an exhibition of all Katharine Hepburn&#8217;s papers from her extensive theatrical career.  &#8220;Katharine Hepburn: In Her Own Files&#8221; compiles letters, notebooks, sketches, scrapbooks, telegrams, etc. (All of her film related documents have been donated by her estate to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences&#8217; Margaret Hedrick Library in Los Angeles). The exhibit is on display at the Performing Arts Library, situated in Lincoln Center until October 10, 2009 at the Vincent Astor Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout her career, Hepburn found herself making the film versions of various plays (the Academy responded: out of 12 nominations, 8 were for play adaptations; 3 of her 4 wins were stage-to-screen translations). Two films (<span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Philadelphia Story <\/span><\/span>&amp; <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Without Love<\/span>) found Hepburn recreating roles she originated on Broadway.
