Thoroughly Modern Angie

At the Oscars in 1968, Angela Lansbury, who was in town with Mame, was asked to perform the Oscar-nominated title song from Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was customary at the time that the song’s originator didn’t sing on the telecast, which is why Julie Andrews didn’t do the honors. Many consider this performance to be an unofficial audition for the film version of Mame.
